Sports Day At Tamaki College!

On Friday the 27th of November nine students from Room 12 went to Tamaki College sports day only if they have been enrolled there.

As soon as we arrived we were split into four teams in colours. Our first sport was touch we played for 20 minutes and then we got into football (soccer). We played for 20 minutes and I got only one goal. YAY!

Next we went to obstical course blind folded. We started and already I had an accident a deep cut and a lumpy bruise. We had morning tea chocolate muffin and milk.

We went into the Recreation centre and played bull rush. We finished early and had lunch. After we lunch we went and played NFL mixed teams and then later we went in our teams and played tug of war. Our team came second  but we were still excited to come after 1st place.

Later teachers were talking about when we start and the motto RISE. Finished. We went back to school and did work.

Touch Rugby Training!

                                                     Touch Rugby

Stepping around the small orange cones, sweating to death, running up and down, small amount of wind blowing swiftly into our faces, passing the bouncy touch rugby ball around and around. Is there anything that we can’t do...?

Last Thursdays touch rugby lesson was awesome, very hot and with a swift wind blowing. Everyone felt excited to learn and gained some new skills and learnt new rules. I played and helped other students to get better than before. At Touch rugby we have an experienced, qualified, coach who is old and short, and whose name is Trevor.

Coach Trevor is coaching our senior block for the school Touch tournament. He taught us to be 10 metres back after a touch or else you're offside. As soon as you get touched you place the ball on the ground so the dummy half can scoop it up and pass it.

Later on we played games, first was zig zag and pass. My team lost the first round but we got better than before and won the second round. Soon, we changed to another game that relates to teamwork and speed. We all had to get into a circle formation so we could pass the ball around clockwise. I came second in the first game and I lost in the other.

After the 45 minutes we felt we had an extraordinary touch session and we all wanted to play and learn more.

Writing Test!

Pressure starts to kick in, nervousness appears, my hands shaking and 45 minutes on the clock…

Last week's recount test was horrifying and stressing. All year eights had to do the test to know what level class we will be inserted in at college. We had our test in class but we all had to be separated incase anyone cheated. I’ve just started The time starts I wrote swiftly as my teacher walked around and glazed her eyes on our work and looked very suspicious, students looked at each other like they were very confused.

Ten minutes later nothing was going through my head except my results afterwards. I thought of more academic words to add to make it more interesting. My teacher crossed out thirty minutes so we were left with fifteen minutes so I enumerated more language features.

Three minutes on the clock I rushed to finish my recount with an extraordinary conclusion. I was struggling to think of my ending so I thought and thought BAM! I had one just in time to proofread. STOP! all the students in shock put their pencils down and sighed as in mean finally it’s finished. I was very pleased with my outcome of my whole entire task.

I can’t wait for my results on my  emotional writing.

Poetry Recital

Last Friday the 6th of November we had a school Poetry Recital. This was our first year attempting to recite our poems. I was very nervous to how the poetry will go but I was wrong. Three students from each classroom were chosen to participate in the Poetry Recital. All the poems were very fascinating to listen to. At the end the finalists were awarded with a certificate. I was proud of all the finalists who gave their best. We hope to do it again next year.

Sports Day(;

Children running around, boys playing touch and parents yelling to encourage their teams.

Firstly, last Friday afternoon we had a church sports day. My family and I went altogether in a my mums Nissan Murano. It was held at the Papatoetoe High school gym located some kilometres from where I live. We finally arrived and felt excited. I sauntered towards the gym and saw plenty of equipment to play with. At our sports day we were divided into four equal teams that had to represent a country such as New Zealand, Australia, Israel and Samoa. I was placed into the New Zealand team. It started at 5 o'clock. The four teams were stretching and warming so no one would feel sore.

Finally it was time to begin. All the children started racing and playing games and sports such as Modified touch, indoor soccer, netball, basketball and Volleyball. It had been five minutes already and some people were injured so they had to rest on the sideline. I played with my friends and chose modified touch to play. Samoa and New Zealand were in the finals for Men’s volleyball. There were ten seconds on the clock so the setter set the ball to the middle and spikes over the net and was still in the court so New Zealand won in time and we won a big Shield.

It was coming to the end of the sports day. All of the four teams had to clean up the gym and later on they head on home for a rest.

Syndicate Assembly!

On Monday the 2nd of November we had a Syndicate Assembly hosted by Room 10 students. At the Assembly the Room 10 students had to share their work and showed the audience their outstanding art works based on what they wrote. We sang a few songs and later the teachers gave out certificates to students who deserve it.
